Books 8, 9 and 10 cover the 21 learning intentions for children aged about 7 to 8 years old.
At this level, children are transitioning from advanced counting to early additive ability. Children are beginning to recognise that numbers can be treated as wholes, or be partitioned (broken up) and recombined. This is called part-whole thinking. It is important to emphasise place value skills and talk about what each number means e.g., 25 is 2 tens and 5 ones. Instant recall of basic facts is also important. Try to take opportunities to emphasise basic number groupings (e.g., 16 + 4 = 20, 7 + 3 = 10, etc.) and multiplication of twos, fives and tens.
The learning intentions covered in this book are:
- Able to recall facts up to 10
- Able to use equals to balance equations
- Able to solve number problems by counting
- Knows numbers as 10+
- Able to count on or back in tens from any number
- Knows how many tens in a 2-digit number
- Able to solve problems using money
- Able to solve multiplication problems by skip counting

The Subject Area books (addition and subtraction, multiplication and fractions) are collections of the material taken from the Linear Series (Books 1-20). The Subject Area books cover only learning intentions that are relevant to that book. The Subject Area books are recommended if your child has a particular difficulty in one area, like fractions.
